Transient Fragments is a sound installation exploring the sonic layer of transients in everyday soundscapes. Soundscape recordings are analyzed and elements with a sharp onset extracted. Frequency bands are distributed spatially over eight speakers arranged in a row, which allows visitors to experience frequency content by moving in space.
The main subject of investigation are rhythmical patterns found in our everyday surroundings. The work draws parallels between the notion of microsound, often used in context of granular synthesis techniques and generally referring to synthetic sounds; and field recordings, which are by nature not synthetic.
